2023 Update: All classes are currently
canceled. I am available to teach shared lessons if you would like to get a
small group of friends together. I am also occasionally offering
Intermediate level classes for current students who are ready for that
level. Alternatively, a private lesson or two can
help tide you over until you start a class. Please contact me by email
regarding scheduling.
LOCATED IN BELLE MEAD AND ROCKY HILL (SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ JUST NORTH
OF PRINCETON ON 206)
G
roup dog training classes are a fun and economical way to train your
dog. If you are looking to teach the basic commands (come, sit, down,
stay, heel) and work on common behavior problems such as jumping up and
stealing shoes, then a group obedience class is just what you need.
Group classes are also an excellent place to practice working around
other dogs and people.
Beginning Obedience
For dogs four months and up. If you’ve just adopted an older dog or you
just never got around to training that puppy, now is the time to get
started turning Rambunctious Rover into a treasured companion. You will
learn how to teach your dog to sit, lie down, stay, walk nicely on
leash, and come when called. Your dog will also learn to greet people
with out jumping up, drop toys and other objects when asked, and behave
calmly in the house. If you have an adolescent or adult dog who just
doesn’t listen, come to Beginning Obedience and learn how to communicate
in a way that your dog will understand. Don't worry, you can teach an
old dog new tricks!
Intermediate Obedience
For graduates of Puppy Pre-School, Beginning Obedience, or Private
Lessons. This class focuses on getting a truly reliable response to the
basic commands. Your dog will learn to come when called, stay, and walk
nicely on leash even when other dogs and people are walking and playing
near him. We will continue to work on good manners, paying special
attention to adolescent issues such as jumping up, stealing things, and
uncontrollable behavior around doggy playmates. In addition to
obedience, we will spend some time on fun and games such as fetch and
hide and seek. This is a great class for the dog who knows it at home,
but has difficulty listening around other dogs and people.

Canine Good CitizenFor graduates of Intermediate
Obedience. Train your dog so that he will be truly welcome everywhere—A
real Canine Good Citizen. Your dog will learn to perform reliably around
real world distractions you might encounter at the park, a soccer game,
or in the vet's office. This class teaches all of the exercises of the
American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Test such as calmly walking
through a crowd of people and dogs, accepting grooming by a stranger,
sitting politely to be petted, coming when called off leash and more.
Students can take the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test, the basis for most
therapy dog tests, at graduation.
*** Winter training advice ***
It’s a bit too chilly in New Jersey for outdoor classes November through
March, but if you are eager to get started during the winter
months, consider taking a couple of private
lessons now and then joining
an Intermediate class in the spring. I will also teach private
beginner’s classes if you would like to get four or more friends
together to share a class.
